San Diego

    We flew from Washington D.C. to San Diego early on the morning of Thursday, October 22nd, 2009. We arrived in California just before noon. We checked in to our hotel in the Gas Lamp Quarter and we enjoyed the view from our room and the rooftop of the hotel (where they have a nightclub). We could see right down into Petco Park – where the Padres play baseball. Then we found a nice little pizza place for lunch called Basic (basicbar.com). After lunch, we took a taxi over to the San Diego Zoo and we spent the afternoon checking out the animals and marching around the entire zoo.

    Once we returned to the Hotel we plopped down on the bed to relax and we both promptly fell asleep. We slept right through dinner time and woke up around midnight. David wanted to check out the Gas Lamp Quarter so he talked Laura into taking a midnight stroll through that part of town. It was fun and there was a lot of activity still going on in the nightclubs, although most of the restaurants were closing down. We enjoyed walking up and down the main drag (5th street if I remember correctly) and we even found a little walk up pizza joint that was still open – so we had pizza again for our late dinner. David was a little disappointed that they did not get to have dinner at the Strip Club, which is the name of the steak house right around from our hotel… Oh well, we did get a good night’s sleep and in the morning we packed our things and then had breakfast at the Broken Yolk diner. And then finally we took a taxi cab with a Jamaican cabbie to the cruise ship pier.
