As we approached Oahu and entered the Honolulu harbor we enjoyed a beautiful sunrise. That morning we took the Pearl Harbor and aviation museum excursion. Our bus driver was named Rongo and you could barely understand him because he talked so fast and jumbled everything together. The Arizona Memorial was impressive. In the visitors center we met a couple military survivors from the Pearl Harbor invasion who were signing autographs and providing a photo opportunity. Then we went to the aviation museum on Ford Island, followed by the submarine memorial park where the USS Bowfin resides. While returning to the ship, our driver took us through the punchbowl cemetery up on the hill above the city… which provided a nice view of Diamond Head mountain. We actually hopped of the bus once it reach the downtown area (which is only a few blocks from the ship pier) to take a closer look at the old palace, judicial center, governor’s mansion and the State Capitol building.
